Proclaim allows you to choose how the content on your slides appears on different monitors by using Virtual Screens (Slides for your main display, Notes for your speaker, etc.). Alternate Content Virtual Screens give you the ability to create your own custom Virtual Screens. For instance, you can have a dedicated Virtual Screen for your live stream (showing the foreground only, as shown below) in addition to your standard slides, confidence, and notes outputs.

To add an Alternate Content Virtual Screen to your presentation:
-
Navigate to Settings > Display
-
Click Add virtual screen in the Virtual Screens section
-
Provide a title and click Done to save your Alternate Content Virtual Screen
Every Virtual Screen corresponds to a tab in Proclaim. When you exit the Settings menu, you’ll see a new tab with the name of your new Virtual Screen. Continue reading to see how to configure this new Virtual Screen for specific service items.
While in EDIT mode, select the newly-created Alternate Screen tab for any Service Item.
Alternate Content Screens can either hold slides, appear as a blank screen, or display picture-in-picture.
By default, the dropdown selection is set to Slide, with options for removing the background and/or foreground. Slide starts out as an exact copy of your main slides, but you can edit it as you like, move fields, change the background, and apply Smart Media that fits your scenario.
-
Remove Background: adds transparency behind any foreground content
-
Remove foreground: removes all foreground content from the selected service item
-
Restore original: if you’ve made any changes to your alternate screen content as compared to your Slides presentation, restore the original with this option
Note
Note: Notice that you can provide custom transitions and advancing settings for an alternative screen. Learn more about transitions in Proclaim. If using a transparent background, consider adding background shapes to text to make it more visible. Learn more about working with text in Proclaim.
Blank sends a totally transparent slide. The Blank setting works well for live stream scenarios when you want to show only your camera feed or keyed out background. The Blank setting also works well in a multi-screen scenarios where the content is not needed on each screen.
Picture-in-Picture is designed primarily for live-streaming or recording environments where you want to combine your presentation slides with a live video feed directly within Proclaim. Unlike a standard slide that covers the whole screen, Picture-in-Picture treats your slide content as a "floating" element over a background. Learn how to configure the video settings in this article.
In addition to the above standard items, Proclaim also supports items like On-screen bible, Bible Trivia, Video items, Image Slideshows, and more. These types of service items don’t support the standard slide editing experience and show four options.
-
Mirror: default option which mirrors your slides content to your virtual screen.
-
Blank: sends a totally transparent slide.
-
Alternate: gives you a fully-editable slide, providing access to the regular toolbar options to create a completely alternative slide for this service item.
-
Picture-in-picture: displays your slide content as a “floating" element over a background (like a livestream video).
Formatting alternate virtual screens works just like formatting any slide in Proclaim.
Ensure Slide or Alternate is selected in the dropdown, then proceed to customize as normal. You can change the position of fields, add foreground images, and apply backgrounds and smart media.
One of the quickest ways to make changes to your alternate screens is by applying an existing template.
If creating an overlay for a live stream feed, for instance, click Background and choose Browse Media to open the Media Browser.
Search for “lower thirds” to view media with mostly-transparent backgrounds and textfields in the lower third of the screen. Choose a piece of media, then click Apply as Smart Media.
Note
Note: You can apply the template to multiple service items of the same kind all at once (e.g. Songs, Content). Before editing your virtual screen, hold down the cmd on macOS or CTRL on Windows and choose the items you want to change.
Your virtual screen will now be formatted for your live stream, while your Slides output retains its original design.
If you plan to use a custom background, select Slide or Alternate from the dropdown, then click Background, then Import… Select your custom background from the picker and choose it to apply it to the selected items.
Resize and move your text fields to where you want them, just like the Slides output. You can also choose a different font or font color to make your text stand out against the background.
In addition to changing the formatting of your slide, you can change the content, too.
